How do you celebrate Valentine’s Day? For me, a little background. I am a mother of 3 in their fun teenage years and have been with my boyfriend for 10 years now. Usually I buy my kids a little something, give my boyfriend a gift, open a bottle of wine and call it a day. This year has me thinking a little more about the message that I want my kids to take away from this day.
Now I could give them the spill about how everyday we should be showing love and why wait for just one time a year. Or tell them about how many people out there are depressed on this day, probably crying at home over a lost love, or a future love not yet there. However, this year I am feeling a little different. Maybe this is my year of love, but I want to teach my kids that YES, we should show love everyday however life is hard, and we get busy and having a day reminding us to love each other really is not that bad. Especially in a world like today.
This is also a day to love yourself, again we all forget to do this. As women, we feel our calling is to take care of others, which in turn we forget about the most important person, ourselves. We all need to learn to pamper ourselves a little more and to not feel guilty about it. Buy yourself those amazing shoes you have been wanting, go to the spa, find your guilty pleasure and treat yourself this Valentine’s Day.
This year I will be teaching my kids not only the importance of kindness and love but the power of pampering yourself. To be happy and successful in life it starts with inside you, so don’t forget to take care of yourself first.
